The Society administers these sites: ¨ The ¨ The LeMoyne Crematory, the first crematory in the western hemisphere; ¨ The Southwestern Pennsylvania Military Museum, an impressive collection of artifacts from each of this country's wars; and ¨ Madeleine's
Garden, featuring a restored 19th Century medicinal herb garden located on
the LeMoyne House property. The gardens are lovingly cared for by volunteers
of the ¨ The Washington County Frontier History Center, currently under construction, this site will include an 18th century settlers fort, settlers cabin, blacksmith shop and a 1780’s log house. The Society sponsors an annual conference featuring such topics of local and national history as the Whiskey Rebellion, Victorian Washington County, Coal Mining, Ethnic Washington County and the Civil War. The Society stimulates interest in local history through workshops, on-going living history tours of the LeMoyne House, annual storytelling walking history tours around the City of Washington, an annual history-related Christmas program, a monthly Civil War roundtable, African-American Heritage and Italian-American Heritage Roundtables, and genealogical and historical research facilities and services. The Society sponsors regular historic displays at the LeMoyne House. The Society’s education department supplements existing school
curricula with local history presentations and provides outreach programs to
local groups and organizations. Outreach Programs The following
