Frontier History Center

Welcome to the Washington County Historical Society’s current project: the Frontier History Center located in Washington Park.

This site was chosen for its accessibility for school and bus tours.  Its proximity to all major highways makes it an ideal location, and being centrally located in the county seat ensures a short commute from all areas and schools in the county.

The Frontier History Center will be comprised of several structures.  This includes an 18th century frontier fort with blockhouse and stockade, an early settlers cabin, a blacksmith shop and a 1780’s log house.  Construction of the settlers fort, settlers cabin and blacksmith shop are slated to be completed by October of 2007.  Pictures of the current construction progress and from our first open house can be seen below.  Please continue to check the website for news and updated progress photographs.
